Representative Terrie Wood |
|
 |
|
Terrie Wood was elected on November 4th 2008 to be the new State Representative for Darien and Rowayton taking over for re-tiring State Representative John J. Ryan.
Terrie’s experience and qualifications are as follows: a resident of Rowayton for four years, Darien for 29 years and an active community advocate for 18 of those 33 years. She has been in leadership and participated in a number of organizations (Darien Land Trust, Darien Environmental Group, Darien Library, YES…DHS referendum committee, Republican Town Committee, RTM, Person-to-Person, The Community Fund, and both a Post 53 and public school parent).
The involvement in these community organizations has given Terrie an understanding of the many needs of this area as well as real experience in bringing divergent groups together to benefit the whole.
Terrie was appointed by House Republican Leader Lawerence F. Cafero, Jr to serve on three legislative committee: the Appropriations, Education and Environment Committees.
Terrie has served as: President Darien Land Trust 2003-2007, Co-Chair YES…DHS Referendum Committee for a new Darien High School 2001, The Community Fund Allocations Panel 2006, 2007 ( formerly The United Way) , Co-Founder of The Darien Environmental Group 1990.
Terrie’s experience and qualifications: I’ve been a resident of Rowayton for four years, Darien for 29 years and an active community advocate for 18 of those 33 years. My leadership and participation in a number of organizations (Darien Land Trust, Darien Environmental Group, Darien Library, YES…DHS referendum committee, Republican Town Committee, RTM, Person-to-Person, The Community Fund, and both a Post 53 and public school parent) has given me an understanding of the many needs of this area as well as real experience in bringing divergent groups together to benefit the whole. I plan to represent the 141st district in the same way.
Terrie’s top three issues facing district:
Flooding, affordable housing and efficient use of the tax dollars that we send to Hartford. Terrie wants to address the first two with a common sense approach, working with local boards and agencies to understand the specific needs of Rowayton and Darien, then approach the funding sources in Hartford with that sound information. Developing this kind of two-way communication will help create a positive dialogue with state officials and a mutual understanding of viewpoints. On fiscal accountability, Terrie would hope again that common sense would prevail and through consensus building, excess and wasteful expenses can be minimized. That’s how the business of government works for the people.

Business Description
The LEGACY PROJECT USA (herein referred to as LPUSA) documents life stories of individuals, organizations, businesses, entrepreneurs, and families. Rozanne Gates and Suzanne Sheridan are the creators/owners. Using audio interviews, digital photography, and digital video montages set to music we are able to archive life stories. A video component can be provided upon request. Ms. Gates conducts the audio interviews, using a state-of-the-art portable digital recording device. The interviews are stored both electronically and on a CD-ROM. Ms. Sheridan, a professional photographer, takes the photographs of the subject and their chosen participants and from those photos she creates a custom-designed hardbound digital photo album. Historical photos can be incorporated into the album. Videographer Matt Abourezk of Talkingbox Digital Media Group (http://www.talkingboxdmg.com) provides the video production services when needed. Although the LPUSA is located in Westport, Connecticut the work location is anywhere the team is asked to be.
Ms. Gates and Ms. Sheridan go to the clients’ home, event, or place of business to do the photography. The photos taken on the day of the shoot include the client plus anyone they want to have photographed. If the client wants archival photos to be part of the final book, Ms. Sheridan re-photographs the chosen photos and includes them in the digital photo album.
The post-production process incorporates the uploading of the audio interview, downloading of the photographs, the creation of the digital photo album by Ms. Sheridan, and the creation of the audio CD and custom CD label by Ms. Gates. The assembly of a video montage is part of the post-production process in some of the packages.
The business is a legal entity in the form of a 50/50 Partnership, complete with a written partnership agreement and is registered with Westport Town Hall as a DBA (Doing Business As) The Legacy Project USA.
Mission/Vision
The mission of the LPUSA is to capture people’s voices and images and preserve them as a family or as a business keepsake and to do it in a meaningful, fun, and participatory way. We are flexible in responding to our clients’ needs and will provide as small or as large a project as is requested. We care deeply about our work and therefore it is part of our mission for the LPUSA to surpass people’s expectations with each Legacy Project, and to use a hands-on management style to achieve this.
Living legacies are created for people to pass on to future generations. “Who am I?” “Who are we?” and “Where did we come from?” will be questions that can be answered as a result of the work being done by the LPUSA. We provide a less arduous and affordable way for people to tell their own life stories and to pass them on.
Our vision includes building a richer understanding between the generations and for that understanding to have a positive impact on families’ lives. Our work will remind those who are here now that this world is built upon the shoulders of our ancestors.
As we honor our elders by listening to their stories and paying attention thereby leaving a tangible representation that they can share with those who come after them, we honor them and all the diversity and value they have created through their individual life process.
Our ultimate vision is to create a more connected world – a world that validates, inspires, and empowers others. As we listen and share our oral histories with one another, we do just that and we respect our clients enough to value their lives by beautifully documenting their stories with high-quality and custom-designed products.

We presented a DVD about the history of Korea from ancient to modern times.
KSCPP Projects in Detail
v Publication and distribution of Korean Sprit and Culture Series:
Since 2005, KSCPP has been publishing books on Korean history and arts, such as Admiral Yi Sun-sin, King Sejong the Great, Chung Hyo Ye and Fifty Wonders of Korea Volume 1 & 2 in English, French and German. These books have been distributed to schools, colleges and other institutions throughout the United States, Germany, United Kingdom and various other countries. As of 2010, we have printed 683,000 copies in total. In addition, to introduce Korean food more effectively, we have published a Korean cook book, Taste of Korea: Korean Cuisine Full of Wisdom and Nature.
v Presentation on Korean history and arts:
Since 2007, we have organized presentations on Korean arts and cultural assets for the general public at schools, colleges, libraries, museums and companies. A number of schools and companies such as Merchant Marine Academy, Marist High School, City of Pennington, Boehringer Ingelheim and Telekurs Financial have requested such presentations from us. In March 2009, we invited the members of Pacific Asian Museum and K-12 teachers in Pasadena, CA for a similar presentation.
Every two weeks, we have hosted brunch meetings for the people of Pennington, New Jersey. Traditional Korean food is served at the meeting and participants watch a documentary on Korean heritage.
v Multimedia Materials on Korean History and Culture:
KSCPP has been producing and distributing multimedia materials on Korean history and culture to high schools and other educational institutions such as museums. As of 2009, we have published 9 different DVDs about Korean heritage. In total, 22,000 copies of DVDs have been made available in English and German.
v Essay Contests: We have held essay contests to attract more interest in Korean history and culture. Since the spring of 2006, we have held 5 nationwide essay contests. About 3,000 people participated in our essay contests and 43 winners have been selected.

Fifty Wonders of Korea & Korea Today
the Hidden Treasures of Korean Art and Modern Korea
Proposal for Documentary Film Screening on Korean Art and Korea’s Industrial Achievements
By Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project
www.kscpp.net
Documentary Film Screening on “Fifty Wonders of Korea” and “Korea Today”: Introducing the 5,000 year-long history of Korean artistic legacies and the extent of Korea’s modern development.
Traditional Korean dessert is provided after the screening.
Please note that our presentation and meal are free of charge.
Information on KSCPP and Details of the Event are as follows:
Introduction
KSCPP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is dedicated to raising awareness of Korean history and culture. In appreciation of the United State’s support for Korea during the Korean War and in the years that followed, KSCPP began to introduce the history and culture of Korea in the United States in 2005. We distribute free literature and give presentations at museums, universities, schools and companies, for those who are interested in learning not only about Korea, but also about its culture & art generally.
It is a non-profit organization staffed by volunteers, and all literature and events are provided free of charge.
Presentation on “Fifty Wonders of Korea and Korea Today: The Hidden Treasures of Korean Art and Modern Korea”
We would propose an event which aims to introduce the audience to the relatively unknown but truly unique and extraordinary works of Korean artifacts such as the Sarira Reliquary of Kameunsa Temple, the Sokkuram Grotto, and the Koryo Buddhist paintings. These works bear a common theme of ‘hidden beauty’ – in each work; the true value only becomes visible on a close inspection by the viewer.
We would also like to show another short film on Korea’s
amazing industrial achievements after the Korean War.
The two films will perfectly complement each other in that, after viewing both films, the audience will come to understand that Korea’s modern day economic success is deeply rooted in its long tradition of rich culture and artistic legacies.

To preview our DVD, please check the following link;
http://www.koreanhero.net/video/playvideo.html?name=ModernKorea_Intro.wmv&width=500
